Turmeric milk: several versions

There are many, many ways to incorporate turmeric into one's diet and beauty rituals to benefit from all of its properties: antibacterial, antiseptic and anti-inflammatory. Turmeric's healing properties have earned it a place as a star spice in Indian recipes and in Ayurvedic medicine.

Here are some recipes you can use every day:

Turmeric milk (basic)

Ingredients

  • 1 small piece of grated fresh ginger
  • ½ tsp. teaspoon turmeric powder or a small piece of fresh turmeric
  • 1 cup whole, 1/2 skim, or plant milk
  • ½ cup filtered water
  • 1 tablespoon honey or to taste

Place all ingredients except the honey in a saucepan and simmer for 20 minutes. Let this infusion sit for 15 minutes.Strain. Reheat if necessary, then add the honey and enjoy.

Turmeric milk deluxe version;-)

Ingredients

  • 2 cups fresh whole milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 2-3 whole peppercorns
  • 2-3 cardamom pods
  • ½ inch coarsely chopped ginger
  • ½ teaspoon of ghee (but not if you have a cold)
  • a pinch of saffron
  • Honey to taste

Heat the milk with all the spices for 2-3 minutes or until the milk is almost boiling. Add the honey according to your taste. Leave the mixture , strain and serve.

Turmeric Milk for Sore Throat

Ingredients

  • one cup of whole, 1/2 skim or plant milk
  • ½ tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp. Teaspoon minced ginger
  • ¼ cup water

Fill the cup with milk and heat the mixture for a few minutes until almost boiling . Other flavors can be achieved by adding a few cardamom pods (cracked) and a pinch of saffron to the milk/water mixture before boiling.

Turmeric milk "good night" Add nutmeg to the basic turmeric milk recipe. Nutmeg promotes sleep.
